Nader and Hashim, I guess you guys were not there. But much of this was hardly based on sending an effective political message. It was sheer hatred, people were basically wishing for death and destruction of the Israeli people. I see no reason why we should leave children in a state of such a hateful tactic, wishing death; they are children and do not have the political sophistication to realize what any of this is really all about. All I see in this protest was one chant after the other... Kill them! Bury them! We will make them pay!

Really? Is this your idea of a rally against human rights abuses? Fighting war, racism, and occupation through further war, racism, and the death of Israeli civilians? How hypocritical.

It is truly a real shame what we embed in the minds of our youth. Yes, I will apologize on behalf of my brethren, repeatedly, for this kind of unacceptable hatred. I will always fight against Israeli injustice, but will never advocate or justify racism and crime that takes place in our name and with our approval.

I agree with hashim that "Death to Isreal" is a phrase used to express the rage of people againest the Israeli goverment and they want to see its downfall "inshallah soon" for their violation of human rights.
And this is exactly what these people in this video is trying to say. So for a goverment which every day kills childerns, womens and old peoples and occupy day after day more lands from poor peoples...are we sorry for saying Death to Isreal?? is it that disturbing??? do we need to apologize?? damn no..I think this is the least that we can do against a such goverment and am not sorry for that as a bahraini citizen.

I believe that slogan "Death To Isreal" is a political slogan that refers to a wish for the downfall of the Israeli goverment and state. It does not refer death to Jews as race or people, just their opposition to the Israeli government and state, that was established on injustice (in mainstream Arab opinion). It is a political statement - no more or less and we should not fall into the translation trap of making it look otherwise even though it is chanted by children.

I think we have to look beyond surface translations and actually ask the people what they mean by their slogans, do they really mean death as in wiping people out, or death as in the political sense of the termination of a particular form of rule/government or occupation?

For exmaple when Arabs say "death to hunger and poverty" in Arabic , what does it mean? Can you actually Kill hunger and Poverty? :)

I think we need to take things into context...

Just some thoughts.

About:
This is a video about a protest that took place in the summer of 2006 to oppose the Israeli attacks on Lebanon. This is a video of some of the disturbing things that I witnessed, and felt a duty to publicly protest and apologize for.
